1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
What is the secret place of the Most High? The word ‘secret’ simply means a place of protection, defence, assurance, a refuge, a fortress. It is the place of God’s defence and refuge, where the soul may find rest, where there is no trouble or fear but absolute confidence in God because you know that you are protected. Most High simply means the highest One; that means no one else can be higher than the Most High. So, dwelling in the secret place of the Most High simply means that you dwell in the fortress or refuge of the highest God, from where and from whom no evil can snatch you; it is a place in God where evil cannot enter. Nothing can come up to that height to pull you down or even affect you negatively. It is a very high place, a place of exaltation, a place of refuge and rest, confidence, a place of defence, a fortress. It is like having a bunker underneath the ground that bombs cannot affect in any way. You are kept safe in the secret place of the Most High; it is the shadow of the Almighty God. It is a place where the sovereignty of God holds total sway. God’s omnipotence alone rules and reigns in the secret place of the Most High. It’s a place where the pavilion of the Almighty God overshadows you such that nothing else can shadow or overshadow you.
The Bible speaks of different shadows; for instance, the shadow of death (where death prevails) in Psalms 23:4. But the shadow of the Almighty is where the almightiness, sovereignty of God prevails, and that shadow of the Almighty is actually the secret place of the Most High. Nonetheless, note the tone of the opening verse. It suggests someone taking a deliberate action to hide himself under the shadow of the Almighty and he is not just there like he comes in and goes out, not an on and off thing; but dwells, abides, lives in there. That’s his habitation. Evidently, it is the place of absolute trust in God, where you are unperturbed by whatever may come against you; for those who trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion that cannot be removed. In the secret place of the Most High, we may say of the Lord, He is our refuge and fortress, our God in Him we shall trust. Beloved, in the secret place of the Most High, there is a quiet confidence in God because there is no trouble that can reach you there.
MY SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that my trust is in the Lord and that He is my refuge and fortress; my God, in Him I trust. Therefore, I dwell in the secret place of the Most High God, unperturbed and unscratched by every evil around me. Amen.
