And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
The Holy Spirit is the Director of the Church. The Spirit of God knows the need of every man in Church. So, though there is a general Word preached from the pulpit to bless everyone in Church, yet the Spirit brings that preaching from principles to personal application to meet the needs of each person in Church personally and dynamically. This ministry of the Word through the Spirit of God is known as counsel. By the operation of the Spirit of counsel, though the preacher might be teaching faith generally, yet God is talking to people in the congregation diversely, addressing specific needs in their lives. The application of the Word of God ministered to us by the Spirit gives everyone a “rhema” – a specific revelation of the Word as each person requires it per time. To one, it might be holiness, depending on the spiritual development of that person, and to another, it might be light concerning breaking new frontiers. Here is what’s happening: one Word, diverse expressions and applications. Every man, from one message preached by the preacher, goes home hearing God concerning the different needs in their lives. This is the ministry of the Word by the Spirit. So, as a believer, you must learn the culture of praying before coming to hear the Word: “Lord, send me the Word that I need for the hour that I might make progress in life.”
God has a prophetic calendar for your life that is unique to you. So, you can’t afford to play Church, rather, you come with your heart and ears opened, in order to hear God as He is speaking to you. Don’t say, “God is talking to my neighbour,” especially when the Word of God is coming to align you with the perfect will of God. Receive God’s Word as your word. That Word is God speaking to you, as a Father to His child. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 shows us that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” The ultimate goal of the Word in your life is to conform you to the image of Christ. That is why God has given the Body of Christ ministry gifts, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the Body of Christ. Therefore, position yourself with the simplicity of heart to hear God and receive His Word in faith, acting accordingly, to the end that you are a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.
