For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
But the [a]word of the Lord endures forever.”
Now, this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.
The opening verse tells us that the Word of God is life giving, powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. It tells us that the Word of God pierces even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow; and it is the discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. We are told that the Word of God is powerful; it is a cleanser, a discerner and a divider of the soul and spirit, joints and marrow. Embedded in the Word is the miracle power of God that causes change and transformation. When you open up to the ministry of the Word, marvelous things are wrought in your life. How? You take God’s Word at face value; you receive indeed the Word as God’s Word spoken to you. You have given the Word its place in your life. The Word has final authority in your life. You don’t argue with the Word anymore; you only obey and yield to the Word in faith. This is what it means to let the Word have its way in your life. You give the Word priority and pre-eminence because all that rightly belongs to the Word. You do the Word; you put the Word to work. You work the Word. You don’t just talk the Word; you work the Word! The Word has become your life, so you live out the Word. You let the Word abide in you richly and then you let it flow out of you! Hallelujah! Amen!
James 1:22 tells us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only, so we don’t deceive ourselves. It is by doing or practicing the Word that the Word finds residence in us. As we practice the Word, it is formed in us and we become rooted and grounded in the faith. Doers of the Word are wise builders that build upon the rock against inclement weather. When you learn the Word to practice it, you will grow up spiritually and tremendously, and your faith will have proofs of the verity of Christianity and the finished works of Christ. Doers, not just talkers, of the Word are true Christians. Be a doer of the Word!
SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I let the Word have room in me, as I practice the Word of God day and night. I declare that I am a doer of the Word in Jesus’ Name!
