13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Redemption speaks of a release that is purchased by the payment of a ransom. In other words, when freedom is ministered to someone who has been in bondage for some time and that freedom is purchased by the payment of a ransom, that person is said to be redeemed. Our opening Scripture reveals that God has delivered us from the power of darkness. This also means that God has delivered us from the authority or right of darkness to hold us bound, to tame us and to hold us in bondage, and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son Jesus Christ. So, we see two things here: first, deliverance from the right of darkness to rule over us. Second, taking us away from the dominion or domain of the kingdom of darkness and transporting us into the kingdom of his dear Son, Jesus Christ. The truth is that the authority that the devil used to have and exercise over us, he doesn’t have anymore. God has delivered us from Satan’s dominion through the finished works of Christ when He took our place as our Substitute and shed His blood as a ransom for our redemption. Note the tense ‘…hath…’, (in the opening verse) in other words, He has done it already. It is not a promise; it is a fact. Our redemption from Satan, sin, poverty, and sickness is a fact; it is a reality that you can relate to now. It is what has been done for us to enjoy now! We need not wait until the world to come to enjoy it!
Redemption is a fact that we relate to as a ‘now’ reality, a now fact, something that we can go home with, something that we can use now, something that we can act on and apply to our lives right away. Furthermore, our opening verse tells us that God has delivered us from the power of darkness. Darkness, here, is everything of Satan: sin, lack, evil, fear, oppression, and everything that is of the devil. Understand that once you get born again, darkness does not have power over you anymore. Why? The Bible tells us that God has delivered us from the power (authority) of darkness and transported us into the kingdom of His Dear Son. So, we are no longer under the influence of Satan; we are now in the kingdom of Jesus Christ. Now, Satan has lost the right to rule over us and dominate us, we now have authority over the kingdom of darkness in the Name of Jesus. Romans 6:14 says “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” We have the ability of God, the authority that God has given us in Christ Jesus to rule over every and any ungodly habit: masturbation, lying, sexual fantasies, and whatever the enemy has used as besetting sin to cause us to trip as a trap. Listen, beloved, you have authority over those things now and you can rule over them. Believe it! Don’t doubt the Word! Say Amen to the Word! The Word of God says you can, and that means you can. The believer is no longer subject to sin but under the grace of God, so the grace of God is available to live a righteous life in Christ Jesus. Amen!
