1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
The Lord Jesus Christ took a very good chunk of His teaching time and ministry to tell us a lot about the Holy Spirit. So, reading the things that the Lord Himself said about the Holy Spirit will give us pointers to the purpose of the Holy Spirit. Our opening Scripture shows us clearly the mission of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has come to satisfy the thirst of believers, our thirst for God, for His presence, for the things of God. Our satisfaction comes from Him. That means you can never have your thirst quenched, your desires met or satisfied without the Holy Spirit. So, if there is anything you desire of God, there is only one Person that can meet that need – the Holy Spirit. Naturally speaking, if a man is thirsty, he may need a cup of water, he may need a jug of water or a crucible of water, but I have not seen anyone who is thirsty, and needs rivers of water. So, that means God is giving us much more than we need so that we can be a blessing to other people. The Word tells us that out of us shall flow rivers of living water, not trickles of living water! We are the seed of Abraham and are meant to be a blessing to our world.
How then does God satisfy the thirst of His children? How God does this is that He satisfies your thirst first, and then He also satisfies the thirst of other people through you. So, that means for you to meet the needs of others, their desire to reach God and encounter Him, their desire to know God, to meet God, to understand God, their desire to be intimate with God; all that will be met through us by the Holy Spirit. So, God meets our needs over and above what we require and then He makes us a blessing to others. So, He comes to satisfy us, and He has come to satisfy others through us. The Holy Spirit is the satisfaction of the believer. Whatever imagination or desire you have of God, that desire or thirst will be met by the Holy Spirit. Do you desire to be effective in ministry, career, business, marriage, in life in general? It is the Holy Spirit that will meet that desire. Lift up your desires to God today in the place of prayers and He will release the rivers of living waters out of your belly as you commune with God, ministering to the Lord and praying in tongues. Give yourself to prayers and unleash the fountains of God within your spirit!
