17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
Today’s opening Scripture reveals the Spirit’s passion and travail through the apostle Paul for the Church at Galatia. He had travailed in prayer once for their new birth in Christ, and he is travailing again, as in birth, until Christ be formed in them, that is, until they come to maturity. The will of God being executed by His Spirit is to have Christ formed in every believer. Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27), a mystery hid from ages and generations, now made manifest to the saints. God wants to reproduce Himself in us, that is His dream and uttermost desire, to show the world that we are one with Him, as believers in Jesus, and through this union, reveal through us the fulness of His glory. This is Christ in you, the hope of realizing and demonstrating God’s glory. God wants to build Himself in you, He wants to reflect Himself to the world through you. Right from the beginning, God’s plan was to make man in His image and after His likeness, in His eternal character to function like Him. That was the original plan right from creation and though the plan was truncated by Adam’s transgression, Jesus Christ has come to reinstate man to where the Father originally placed him.
How then is Christ formed in you? Through the ministry of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit builds God into us by building the word into our spirit. When the word is built into you, then Christ is formed in you. This is the Spirit’s highest goal and noblest ministry; He infuses the Word into you until you become one with Christ, in words, in thoughts and in actions. Jesus is the living Word of God, the brightness of God’s glory, the express (flawless) image of His Person. The word carries the character of Jesus and your destiny as a believer is to conform to the image of God’s Son, Jesus, which is the express image of God. Therefore, as God’s Word comes to you and you receive the revelation of that Word and act upon it, the Spirit of God changes you to be like the Word, like Jesus. To talk like Jesus, to act like Jesus, to respond like Jesus, to rule and reign in life like Him, “…for as He is, so are we in this world.” As you come to the Word with an open heart, “…beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, you are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” So, receive the Word, believe it, feed on it and live by the Word as Christ is formed in you in full.
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I receive with an open heart the ministry of the Word, walking in it as a doer of the Word until Christ is formed in me.
