18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Spirit of God is our competitive advantage in life. As a believer, you must understand that you are not disadvantaged. In Christ Jesus, you have been rightly positioned in God’s righteousness made available to you by Jesus’ substitutionary work and the Holy Spirit has been sent by the Father to dwell in the new creation to help and comfort us. Little wonder Jesus said “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). The presence and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit make all the difference in the life of the believer. The moment you get filled with the Holy Spirit like it happened with the disciples on the day of Pentecost, the Person of the power of God comes to dwell in you, and the plan of God is that you live by the power of His Spirit. As a believer that is filled with the Holy Spirit, understand that you are not powerless; however, you need to know the One who dwells in you and know also how to put His power at work in you to work. Just the same way a vehicle has the ability to convey you from one location to another, but if you don’t start the ignition and engage the car to drive, though the potential is present, you will remain on the same spot, until you drive the car. God also wants you to know how to engage the power at work in you. The Holy Spirit is the One who endues you with the power of God.
Our opening Scripture says not to be drunk with wine, wherein is excess but to be filled with the Spirit. How? Verse 19 of Ephesians 5 says “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” As you speak to yourself in God’s Word, ministering to the Lord, singing and worshipping Him, you will be filled with the Spirit of God. God wants you filled with the Spirit and to stay filled; He wants you to be full of God, overwhelmed and soaked in the presence and power of God. Being filled and staying filled with the Spirit is how to stay aglow and keep the fire of the Spirit within you burning. Give yourself to prayer and to the ministry of the Word, minister to the Lord in songs of praise and you’ll be filled with the Spirit. When you are filled with the Spirit and you stay filled, doing the will of God becomes a delight, not a struggle; it becomes easy to do the things of God and walk in God’s will. The Spirit of God is the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God; He reveals the Father’s will to us and empowers us to do His will. Beloved, engage the ministry of the Holy Spirit today and let him fill, overwhelm and influence you and He will put you on top of every situation in life. The Holy Spirit is your advantage; engage Him!
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I give myself to prayer, meditation in the Word and ministering to the Lord as I get filled with the Spirit daily. Amen!
