16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
When the Lord Jesus was going to leave the earth, He told His disciples of the promise of the Father, which those who believe in Him (Jesus) should receive. Our opening verse describes the Holy Spirit as another Comforter and in verse 17, He says “Even the Spirit of truth…” Another translation says, “… even the Spirit of reality”. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of reality; He is the One that brings to bear upon us the reality of God. What is the reality of God? The Word of God is reality, the Word of God is the truth. Jesus speaking in John 14:6 says “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jesus is the living Word of God, the Word made flesh, He Himself is the truth. So, John 17:17 says “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” The Word of God is truth, reality; and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of reality, that reveals the truth of God’s Word to us. For example, without the spirit or breath of man in his nostrils, he is dead, without which he cannot function as a human being. Likewise, without the Holy Spirit, we cannot come to terms with the reality of the Word. Why? He is the Spirit of truth; He is the One that makes alive the truth of the Word.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of reality; He is the teacher of the Word, bringing truth to us and bringing us to truth. The Spirit of God unveils the Word to us and builds it into us until we are imbued with the fullness of the Father’s character in every sense of what that represents. The Bible says in 1 John 2:20, “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Knowing; He is the Revealer of truth; He is the One that makes the truth real to us. The Word of God is just going to be one of the natural books to us until the Spirit of God reveals it. How does the Spirit reveal the Word to us? When we meditate in the Word and give ourselves to prayer, particularly praying in other tongues, the Spirit unveils the Word to our spirit. Desire that the Revealer unveils the truth of the Word to you as you give diligent attention to studying and meditation in the Word. Pray and ask the Father for light! He sure will give you light by His Spirit that dwells in you!
My Solid Front (Confession):
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the Holy Spirit, the Revealer of truth. I submit myself to the Spirit of God as He teaches me deep things in the Word in Jesus’ Name! Amen!
