8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Abraham’s faith in God is one of a kind. In the compendium of faith, his faith stands out. Why? Abraham’s obedience of faith to God’s instruction staggers the natural mind in a strange display of an unswaggering faith in God. Imagine if God showed up to you one day and told you to go somewhere but He wasn’t going to tell you where to go. You just had to pack up and start walking. How would such an experience teach you to rely on God, totally or partially? Remember, you don’t know the way. God alone knows the way and the place He is taking you. You just have to rely on Him absolutely, right? Abraham’s faith in God required that he relied on Him absolutely because the instruction that God gave him warranted absolute and total reliance on Him. God promised Abraham that He would make him the father of many nations (Gen.17:4) and yet Abraham was elderly, and his elderly wife was barren (unable to have children). It seemed like an impossible situation. That’s what makes Abraham’s faith so amazing. God is able to take impossible situations and make them possible. What is the situation you have been in that seemed impossible that it would turn out well and yet God worked it out? God can and will do it again a million times.
When it comes down to it, faith is about total reliance on God for everything. We have never seen heaven or been there, but God tells us that He is going to take us there. We have never seen God face to face, but the Bible tells us that He exists and that He is a Rewarder of those who seek Him diligently. We believe God exist and take Him at His Word. We go by what God has said to us in His Word; we take His Word at face value. We do not stagger or waver on God’s Word because He has proven Himself faithful in Bible days and in contemporary days also. God can be trusted; that’s the thrust and hub of faith. The good news is, we can read stories like Abraham’s and see just how faithful God is when we put our faith in Him.
MY SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION)
In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that I am the seed of Abraham, and I walk in the steps of Abraham’s faith. I believe God absolutely and totally. I cast myself and an unreserved faith on God, trusting Him every one step of the way as He leads me forward into my inheritance in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
