30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.
Faith has its own unique logic, which does not, most of the time, tally with common sense. Common sense sure has its place, but when faith steps in, common sense must submit to faith. The intelligence of common sense is the five physical senses, whereas the Word is the intelligence of faith. The Word informs faith, but the 5 physical senses inform common sense. Our opening Scripture tells us that by faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after Israel had compassed it about seven days. Common sense says they may compass it about 1 billion days for all they care, the walls of Jericho will not fall down just because people are compassing it about. However, faith believes that by compassing it about 7 days according to God’s Word, the walls must come crashing down. Can you see that the logic of common sense is different from faith’s logic? 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us that we walk by faith, and not by sight or sensory perception. We must learn to subject common sense under the logic of faith. Faith in God ought to hold sway over everything cerebral in our lives; for the just shall live by faith.
Mostly, God doesn’t always tell us to do things that make perfect sense to us. Here God orders Joshua to march around the city and blow trumpets to knock the walls down. Does that make sense to you? Because God is the only wise God, He is the only One who knows how and why things make sense. Now, it is important to note that God has many different ways to make things happen; for there is no searching of His understanding and His ways are past finding out. Beloved, God knows how it is all going to turn out, therefore it only makes sense that we would put our lives in His hands rather than try to run the show ourselves. Meditate in the Word and the logic of Scriptures will come home to you. Your mind will be renewed to the Word, and you will get to know and understand the reason why God does what He does the way He does them. When the mind is renewed to the Word of God, the logic of faith always makes sense, for faith is God’s sense as it is absolute confidence in the Word of God, which is the wisdom of God.
