Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
The fight of faith is the believer’s fight. It is a fight, and it is of faith. It is not a struggle in the flesh; it is of faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen as yet (Hebrews 11:1). It is a fight based on the assurance or confidence that the victory is settled and already won. It is a fight from victory, not for victory. Jesus has already overcome the world for us, therefore our fight is not to get the victory, but to contend for the victory that the Lord has already given us. A fight is always about something. There is no empty fight. Something is always at stake in every fight. Fighters are stakeholders and interest groups. When a noble cause is at stake, a fight will establish it. People fight, kingdoms do, too. A fight is not wrong when it is about a just cause.
Our fight of faith is against the enemy’s tactics and cunning craftiness to rob us of all that Christ has done for us. The devil is the thief, who comes to steal, and to kill and to destroy. We are standing our ground in faith and prayer against the wiles of the wicked. We are holding forth the Word of life, which is the sword of the Spirit, against him and all his cohorts. We hold fast to the blessings that the Lord has given us in Christ Jesus. We refuse to let the pressure of the wicked sway us off the paths of righteousness. We say, ‘Come what may, we will not give in to the devil’s pressure.’ This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Faith is the victory; faith is our victory. This is why it is a fight of faith. Beloved, don’t let the devil rob you of the things that God has freely given unto you. Resist the devil in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he will flee from you.
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of Jesus, I declare that I have the victory in Christ Jesus. I resist the devil and he flees from me. The devil is defeated and cannot stand the fight of faith; therefore, I have the victory in Christ Jesus. Amen.
