18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—
19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
What is it about knowing the love of Christ that is very important? Knowing the love of Christ by revelation and by experience brings us into the fullness of God – all the fullness of God. Knowing the love of God is the platform of experiencing God; the platform of transformation; the platform of change for the believer. There is nothing higher; there is nothing better that you will ever know of God other than His love for you, and how your response to His love brings you into the completeness of everything that’s of Him. It’s so important to know God’s loving kindness which is better than life (Psalms 63:3). It says His lovingkindness is better than life. Think about it! Ephesians 3:19 shows us the Spirit’s prayer through the apostle Paul for the Church at Ephesus to be rooted and grounded in God’s love, and to know the breadth, length, depth and height of the love of Christ which surpasses human, natural knowledge; that they may be filled with all the fulness of God. Therein lies the fulness of God.
Knowing the love of Christ surpasses knowledge and life. Life itself cannot compare with the joyful thrill of knowing the love of God. This is the zenith of all of God’s mysteries hidden for us before the foundation of the world. This is the secret of walking in the fulness of Christ, in oneness with God until Christ be formed in us, which is the hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God. Understanding the dynamics of this love, is what makes us masters in life and empowers us to walk in the fullness of God; all the fullness of God – fullness of His power, grace, wisdom, knowledge; the fullness of everything that’s of God. And what’s the dynamics of knowing this love? This is it: that God so loved us, that He gave His only Son Jesus Christ for us to have life through faith in Him (John 3:16), and that we abide in His love by keeping His commandments, which is to keep faith with His Son Jesus Christ and to love one another as Christ has loved us (1 John 3:23). As we keep His commandment of love to love one another, in us His love and the revelation of Him, is perfected; and we come into organic and substantial knowledge of and oneness with Him. This is the perfection of the saints. This is the mystery of His will, in gathering all things in Christ unto the fulness of Jesus Christ in all things. Our love for God is the effect of His love for us (1 John 4:19). This is knowing the love of God in the cause and effect of it!
