But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
A lot of Christians complain about how that the Word of God is not working for them, not because the Word does not work but that they are ignorant of how it works. The truth is that God’s Word always works; it never fails, has never and will never fail. It is as silver tried in the furnace of earth, purified seven times, and has come out with excellence and integrity. God has integrity and His Word does as well; He is faithful, and His Word cannot fail. Whatever He says must come to pass. Now, if the Word is not happening in your life as it ought to, something is out of place, obviously not with God, but with you. You have need of meekness to admit that the problem as to working the Word and getting results with it, is not with God but with you.
As to getting results with the Word, there are people who assume that because God has said something to them, it ought to happen without their own involvement, or them working the Word. This is an erroneous belief that is alien to what the Word teaches. God wants us to participate in His Word. Therefore, the Word tells us in James 1:22 to be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving our own selves. It is self-deceit or self-delusion to think that the Word will work for you without working it. Never assume the Word will work for you just because it is in the Bible; you must work it. Don’t be deceived! Hearing the Word alone does not amount to having it come to pass in your life. You must hear and understand it and put it to work by acting upon it in faith, to see it leap into being for you. The Word is like a seed; it must be sown into your heart, watered, and nurtured before harvest can be realized. So, when you receive the Word of God, put it in your mouth and confess it to yourself; and let your actions be consistent with the Word of God that you have believed. Whatever God says to do, go ahead and do it. Never assume that you are going to have the outcome of what God says to do by not doing it. Don’t walk in assumption; be intentional! You must be a doer of the Word, putting it in your mouth and in your action, and making it a lifestyle to see the Word work for you.
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that I am a doer of the Word. I put the Word to work by acting upon it, for the Word lives and is alive in me. Amen.
