Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
Today’s opening Scripture tells us about the response of the Berean believers to the Word of God. The Word says they were more noble than the brethren in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things they were told were so. Amazingly splendid response to the Word! What stood them out from the Thessalonians? They received the Word with readiness of mind. They were willing and ready to take in everything God had for them. This is worthy of emulation. It is important to receive the Word with willingness and readiness of mind. God loves for us to be willing and ready minded at receiving the Word. God will say more to the ready minded than He will to the sluggish and dull hearted. In Luke 5, the people pressed upon Jesus to hear the Word, and He hired Peter’s boat, entered, and taught them. They were ready to hear the Word, so He made room to preach the Word. God will always speak to those with a ready mind to receive the Word. It is noble to have a hunger and readiness for God’s Word. It means that you are open to the Word of God, and are willing to receive the Word concerning every area of your life; and so you pay attention whenever the Word is being preached or taught because you have an open heart; that is a noble trait.
Again, the Word tells us that the Berean folks were researchers in the Scriptures. They reached the Scriptures daily, whether those things they were told were so. The Word characterized them as noble; more noble than the Thessalonians. It is a noble thing to search the Scriptures. We ought to have an appetite for the Word, a strong desire to know the truth of God’s Word and to live by it, for there is nothing that can be done against the truth but for the truth. It is important that you maintain the right attitude in receiving God’s Word. This is so because the Word is your life. The Word is your life, and everything God does in, for, to and through you, He does by the Word. Your life hinges on the Word. Therefore, it is important that you receive the Word with readiness of mind and be willing to search the Scriptures.
MY SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that my attitude to the Word of God is right. I receive God’s Word with all readiness of mind and allow it to define my belief system and way of life. Amen.
