Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Our opening Scripture reveals a profound statement made by the Lord Jesus Christ. He said, I am the light of the world, he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. What life is He talking about? Not natural life, evidently. The people to whom He gave the address already had natural life; but He was talking about a new kind of life, life of the Godkind, God’s being, God’s nature, which is known as Zoe. So, the Lord Jesus refers to light of the Godkind of life, not light of natural life. This light is special in that it emanates from the life of God. John 1:4 tells us that life, the God kind, is in the Word, and that life is the light of men. Therefore, the light of life is the light of the Word of God.
The man in Christ is born of the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23) with a new kind of life that is of the Word. That life is of God, and functions according to the Word. Nothing of the world order, the values, and beliefs of the world, appeals to the new man in Christ. The unrenewed mind may admit worldly values, but the new man within repudiates them. We live by the light of life; we walk by faith. The light of light, which is the light of the Word, the light of the new creation in Christ, is what we live by. 1 John 1:7 tells us that if we walk in the light, as Jesus Christ is in the light, then we have fellowship with Him. Walking in the light of life is the way we have fellowship with God. Walking in the light of life is living by the Word. The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path (Psalms 119:105). The light of life is our kind of light. We see life through God’s eyes. Our estimation of life is not according to the world. We walk by faith, and not by sight. We are the light of the world, a city that’s set on a hill that cannot be hidden. Hallelujah!!!
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I walk in the light of life, and I am taught of the Word and great is my peace. The Word of God rules my consciousness daily and always. Amen.
