Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
The tongue sure is powerful! The Word talks about the power of the tongue. Our opening Scripture tells us of the power of the tongue. It says the tongue is powerful to cause death and life; death and life are in the power of the tongue. Then it says that those who love it will eat the fruit of it. What does this mean? Words kill, words give life; they are either poison or fruit – you choose! Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it, for death or for life. The choice to either speak life or death is yours. You don’t leave it to chance. You must take responsibility for your words before, during and after saying them. When temper is boiling, a quiet tongue is much wiser than a lousy, screaming one. The vocabulary of silence is recommended for the one who is still learning to shape and tame the tongue. You don’t always have to talk or say something. Using the tongue is like pulling the trigger of a gun. You must have sighted a prey before pulling the trigger. You don’t pull the trigger in vain. You don’t have to be trigger happy! You may hurt someone or yourself by so doing.
We have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren (1 John 3:14). Everyone in Christ has passed from death unto life. We are in the eternal life, even Christ Jesus who lives forever. We have been redeemed from death, and from the realm of death also. We have no business speaking death, setting in motion the laws of death, and causing a disruption of peace by speaking words of death. We are to bless with our tongue, and not curse. We are to give life, not death, to people by our words. We are to disseminate grace by our words, not disgrace or disfavour. Our words have now become haven of hope, of life and of encouragement to the hopeless and downcast. Our words have become vessels or carriers of grace to the downtrodden. Therefore, the Word tells us to not let any corrupt communication proceed out of our mouth, but that which is good for edifying use to our audience (Ephesians 4:29). Beloved, be deliberate about your words; mix them with faith and love and give them to people as a precious gift from the bosom of God’s tenderness and lovingkindness. Speak boldly, tenderly, truthfully, gracefully, powerfully, thoughtfully, and intentionally. Your words are not ordinary, because you are not ordinary.
My Solid Front (Confession):
Heavenly Father, I thank You for showing me the importance of taking heed to the words of my mouth. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that my tongue is under the leadership of the Spirit of God and of the Word; therefore, I always speak the right things unto progress and success. Amen.
