And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [a]Helper, that He may abide with you forever
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
The Spirit of God is our Comforter in and all through life. We cannot do without Him; we can only do with Him. He is such a tremendous and incomparable help that the Father has sent to lift us above the ordinary life into the extraordinary. We are much and everything that God has cut out for us to be, with Him helping us realise our God-ordained potentials. He sure is an indispensable help to us in Christ. We are so blessed to have Him as our Helper and Comforter. Our opening verse tells us the desire of the Lord Jesus Christ for us to have the Spirit indwell and abide with us forever. It says that He will pray the Father, and He shall give unto us another Comforter, that he may abide with us forever. He uses the word ‘another’ Comforter, which means another of the same kind, not another of a different kind. The Lord Jesus Christ had been a Comforter of a physical kind to His disciples. He had succoured them; He had met their needs at every time they required Him to. He had been their teacher, instructing and illuminating them. Now, He says He wants another Comforter of a spiritual kind, beyond what the physical senses can see, but of the same heart and source as Jesus Christ, from the Father, helping us through life. What the Lord Jesus Christ was to His disciples when He walked the earth in seen form is what the Spirit of God is to us today in unseen form. Well, Jesus’ seen presence with the disciples produced seen results. The unseen presence of the Spirit of God with us does nothing less in every respect. The Spirit of God is another Comforter sent from the Father to us, like Jesus. He will say to us everything that Jesus would say to us if He were here physically. He speaks to us with Jesus’ voice, love, compassion, wisdom, and power. You cannot miss Jesus listening to Him. He is Jesus’ presence in all of us, communicating Him to us.
Are you going through any tough time or season in your life? Are there people who are supposed to help and support you that are missing in action? Do you require help so desperately? Well, help is not far-fetched. The Comforter, Helper, Standby, Advocate, Intercessor, Teacher, Revealer of truth, Strengthener and Guide, the Holy Spirit, is right with and in you to help. Get into the Word via meditation and let the Word carry you into prayer or fellowship with Him, and you will find answers to all your questions.
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that the Holy Spirit is my Comforter, Strengthener, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Teacher, Standby and Inspiration always. He is more than enough for me. Amen.
