The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Merry Christmas! What a beautiful privilege it is to be alive at such a time as this! Christmas is a time of celebration of the biggest gift of life – the birth of the Saviour of the world, Jesus Christ. Christmas is a celebration of different things to different people. Some celebrate the joy of family while others celebrate an end of a season. Many celebrate Christmas as the eve of a new season, a new year, a new dispensation. However, whatever Christmas means to you, the essence of Christmas celebration must not be lost to the different connotations and appellations attached to it. In one word, Christmas is the celebration of the birth or life of the Saviour of the world, who was born to die for the sins of the world. It is a celebration of a life born to die for others; it is a celebration of a purposeful life, a selfless life, a sacrifice poured out to win God’s favour to humanity. That’s what Christmas truly is.
How then do we make the most of a Christmas such as this? Well, the answer is not far-fetched. We only need to remind ourselves of the purpose of Christmas, the reason for Christmas. For unto us a child is born, and unto us a Son is given (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus Christ was not born unto His family; He was born unto us, the whole world. He was born unto the world and lived for the world. He poured out His life for others, not only in time and for time, but also for eternity. Therefore, we cannot do justice to Christmas without giving ourselves unto others in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We ought to give gifts and exchange pleasantries. We ought to remember the poor and the needy. We need to look out for those who don’t have anyone around to look out for them. We need to pray for people that we cannot reach physically with our gifts. But much more, we need to give a gift of eternal life to sinners who are lost in the world without God and without hope by giving them the Gospel of salvation. Nothing can be more precious or better than reaching out to people with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! If you spend and are spent to bless people with material blessings, and all you give is what can be spent and used up, they will still be in need. But you can give them the gift of eternal life that’s in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please, go ahead and tell someone about Jesus today!
