1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Psalms 23 is a psalm of David that x-rays the subject of divine guidance. Psalms 23:1 says, the LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want, which means that everyone that is guided by the Lord and follows the leading of the Holy Spirit never walks in want or lack. Our provision is tied to divine guidance. Psalms 23:2 says, the Lord maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. “Green pastures,” not brown or withered pastures stands for timely, refreshing provision. “He leads me beside the still waters,” not troubled waters, means that you always have access to the best in life, the most peaceful life ever. When you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, you always enjoy the best in life, no matter what. So, the one that is led and guided has access to green pasture and access to still waters. Isaiah 1:19 says “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” Did you see once again how eating the good of the land, which is prosperity, is linked to being willing and obedient? Psalms 23:3 says, “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” You will always walk in rightness or alignment with God’s will because the Lord is leading you. You will always be at the right place, at the right time, with the right people; that is what divine guidance brings you into. Your soul is restored, you are not troubled, why? Because you are guided, you are instructed and counselled by the Holy Spirit.
Psalms 23:4 says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” That means you are not afraid of evil tidings. Nothing moves you because you know that you are led and guided by the Holy Spirit. Noise and rumours of war don’t move you because you are guided by the Holy Spirit. Psalms 23:5 says, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” Another translation says, “You make ready a table for me in front of my haters: you put oil on my head; my cup is overflowing.” That is provision and abundance in the face of confrontation, just because you are led by the Spirit. Verse 6 says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Here is the certainty and assurance of enjoying the goodness and mercy of God all your life. Amazing, isn’t? All those benefits are tied to being led by the Spirit.
