1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
13 And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
Divine guidance varies with dispensations and covenants. Under the Old Covenant, people did not have the Holy Spirit indwelling them. They were led by prophets and priests because the only set of people that had the Spirit of God upon them were prophets and priests, and anointed kings. The body of the Old Testament saints was not the temple of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God could not dwell in them because they were not born again. So, the people under the Old Covenant who didn’t have the Spirit of God upon them would have to go seek out divine guidance from prophets and priests. Priests used the Urim and Thummim to consult with divinity and they got promptings by which they guided the people. Prophets, by the Spirit of God upon them, spoke the Word of God and led the people. Hosea 12:10 says “I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.” Hosea 12:13 says “And by a prophet, the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.” The Lord guided and brought the children of Israel out of Egypt into the promised land by a prophet. So, it was right, correct, biblical, and scriptural for Old Testament saints to go seek out divine guidance from prophets because the people didn’t have the Spirit of God in them, but the prophets had the Spirit upon them, so the prophets could see the way, interpret the way to them and guide them.
However, under the New Covenant, the Bible makes us realise that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, which means the Spirit of God dwells in us. Hebrews 1:1-2 says “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” So, it is unscriptural for us, New Testament saints, to seek guidance from prophets because our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Don’t forget, divine guidance varies with dispensations and covenants. Romans 8:14 says “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” We are in a new era, we are in a new dispensation, we are in a New Covenant. We do not have any right under God in the new covenant to seek guidance from prophets. If you still do that, repent. Sons of God are led by the Spirit of God and not by prophets and God is willing to guide you if you allow Him. Prophets may bring confirmation to what the Lord had already told you, but they are not meant to guide you. The New Testament believer is guided or led by the Holy Spirit.
MY SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that I am led by the Spirit. I do not follow the prompting of the senses, neither am I led by prophets in Jesus’ Name!
