22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
Abiding in the Lord makes prayer powerful. It is living in union, in communion and fellowship with God. When you pray in communion (oneness) with God, when you’re living a life of fellowship with God, your prayer life becomes powerful. When you pray in oneness with God, when you have a consistent fellowship with God, your prayer life comes in sync with the will of God and your prayers get answered. You know how to pray the will of God because you are abiding in Him and His words abide in you. So, praying from the place of meditation and fellowship with God makes prayer powerful. Beloved, spend time with God’s Word, know His heart and will for you in prayer, your prayer life will become powerful and fruitful as a result. Jesus the Lord said in John 15:5-7 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abideth not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” What does it mean to abide in Christ? Abiding in the Lord is to abide in His commandment, that is, to walk in love; therefore, abiding in God is abiding in love.
To abide in His love means to abide in the love commandment. Jesus said, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.” John 15:9. “If you abide in me” simply means “if you keep my love commandment…if you continue in my love.” This means that the love commandment is before your eyes, you will not forget it, you will keep it in your heart. You are not walking in offence, bitterness, unforgiveness towards your brother or sister. Scripture says, “you will ask whatever you will, and it will be done to you.” So, a man who is not walking in love is not going to see the manifestation of answers to his prayers. Why? Because he is not abiding in God and the word of God is not abiding in him. In 1 John 3:22, the Scriptures says, “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” Verse 23 says “And this is his commandment, that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” Now, we know that we’re going to receive what we ask from God because we keep His Commandments, so it is important that you keep God’s Word, which is to love one another as He gave us commandment and let that love continue, by keeping the commandment of walking in love towards your neighbour.
